You did it again. Lost an hour scrolling through feed on your phone. Easy to do right?
Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and others absolutely have an allure. Why do you find yourself craving them?
These platforms are active and live because they are inhabited by live humans. They have an ever changing river of intent, personality and emotion. Whoever is on them contributes to the thoughts and feelings of the reader/consumer.
You find it hard to step away because you are searching for something. Sometimes they scratch the itch and sometimes you step away bruised and bloodied in unexplainable ways.
But if social media is a like a flowing river, you can control your ship and steer it in the direction you want to go. Knowing what you’re doing and being in charge of it is pretty important in life. Instead of being a piece of driftwood why not GPS your future?
1) Make time to think about what you really want and need. Follow people who promote those things and not people or organizations who just spout a certain narrative.
2) Target the posts you read with purpose. Deliberately choose those which match the psychological aims of peace, joy and hope and positive action. (I’m assuming here that you don’t want to end up in a bad place.)
3) Clean up your feed. You can’t overload on nutrient poor carbs and expect to improve your health, can you? I mean it feels good in the rush of the moment, I’ll grant you that. But over the long term its disastrous.
