I’ve often pondered over the several declarations in scripture about clapping.
Psalm 47:1 “Clap your hands all you nations’
Psalm 98:8 ‘Let the rivers clap their hands’
Isaiah 55:12 ‘The trees of the field will clap their hands’
In each case, God is being applauded in great joy.
But why these three things? What do men, rivers and trees have in common?
I’m not certain, but it occurred to me that all of them have offspring in the form of ‘descendants’, ‘branches’ and ‘tributaries’. There’s great opportunity for dissemination from the original source.
Just as water carries far and wide, trees spread and recreate, so you and I have influence and issue.
These days I find myself clapping in faith to God, in both gratefulness for and expectation of miracles that only he can accomplish. May it resound to the ends of my influence and issue!
