Living in the Dark

I started in the dark. So did you.

Despite the advance of modern medicine and sonograms, there is not a continuing window in the womb. The miracle of life happens primarily in the dark.

And we trust it.

9 months generally doesn’t disappoint.

Our church group discussed the story of Joseph and his slavery, imprisonment and ensuing rise to the the second in command in ancient Egypt.

Though we can read the end of the story, Joseph couldn’t. Outside of a few graphic dreams he had no window onto the future. Neither do we.

Jesus said, “Blessed are those who have not seen and yet believe.”

God’s hand is often hidden. But make no mistake, he is always at work.

What kept Joseph going in the dark?

It seems his belief in the ultimate goodness of God was a guiding light. He tells his brothers that what they meant as evil God used for good.

Have you lost the light? If God can create a human being in the dark, you can make it through this dark time. He is at work when you can’t see it. Gems are made in the blackest depths of the earth. Perhaps God’s greatest work is done in the dark.

Look for the light. It is easiest to see in the dark, and it is there waiting for you.
