Years ago, when I was just a young thing overly concerned with my looks and snagging a husband, I sang a song with this title in an ensemble.
“We have this moment to have and hold as it slips through our fingers like sand…”
It goes on, reminding us that we only truly own the moment we are in. So often I live in all the other moments, the hopes and fears for the future, the regrets of the past–even other people’s moments, rather than my own.
When times are hard, I want to escape the moment and avoid giving thanks for it, and when times are good, I barely remember to give thanks because I’m oblivious to how blessed I really am.
Here’s to living in this present moment. Drink deeply. It is yours to hold.
