Finding Joy in 2019

Do you ever have a one-word theme at the beginning of a new year?

This year mine is joy. I don’t believe joy is something that happens to me. I think it is something I seek and find. It is a constant available choice.

I’m ignorant about many things. I suspect I will learn more about joy as the year progresses. But I have sensed that the positive emotions of life are actual realities waiting to be mined or dug out so that they can be experienced.

The default negative emotions are easily accessible. Hatred, fear, envy and the like are all used by a dark power to cause harm to ourselves and others. The gloom that settles on our souls when we are allowing thoughts like this to dominate is quite common. But we are not pawns. We are autonomous beings.

We are uncommonly powerful, because we are children of the Most High. He is our lifeline to joy, and in fact instructs us to rejoice and be glad. Why would he do that? There must be something to be glad about. It may be hidden.

Believe it.

Find it.
